Our other animals

Our other animals
We also have 1 ram, 12 sheep and their lambs. A Rabbit and 3 Guinea -pigs, 9 Cats, nearly 100 Chickens, 2 Budgies and some fish.

In August we take the lambs to the butcher and then sell the meat in "a whole lamb" or a "half a lamb" depending how much meat we want. We do this because that way we get our money back and we believe it is kinder to the lambs than sending them to market where they get pushed around, several journeys and in the end they might not get an owner who looks after them properly.

All our sheep have names. We have 4 white ones which are the tamest and they follow you and eat out of your hand. We also have 8 Zwartable ewes and a ram which are tame enough not to be scared of you and they don't run away from people.

Our cats are very tame too. They have a shed which they can sleep in and they are fed in there. We have 1 ginger cat "Rascal" and 1 grey cat "Smoky" and the rest are black and white. Their names are Whiskers, Muffin, Sooty, Fluff, Corky, Charli and Kit. We also used to have a torteshell "Scamp" and her son "Felix" but they now live a few fields away.

The Guinea-pigs Pip, Squeak and Ella are very tame and also they are very hardy and much less tempermental than the rabbit "Fudge". They are very easy to look after as they need feeding hay, vegetables, cereal and water only twice a day. The guinea-pigs also stand up to shock than rabbits do. They live altogether in a cage outside only moving into the garage for the winter.
